How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. -- Anne Frank ON-GOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Outings Leader/Co-Leader: This option would require as much time as you wish to devote. If you like the camaraderie of people, and have a few skills at leading people to experience the outdoors, we would like your help. Our outings range from simple and easy evening walks along the Boise Green Belt to challenging backpack trips into the remote mountains of the state...so almost any outing is possible. Phoning Sierra Club members: From time to time, and always in the spring and fall, we phone our members to ask their help with literature distribution in Boise neighborhoods. Call us to have your name added to our phone helper list. Neighborhood Walk and Literature Drop: Twice a year, in the spring and fall, we work together to provide our community with information on a current conservation topic (Atlanta Gold mine, Owyhee Initiative, Cool Cities, etc.). Just call the office to have your name added to our canvass list and we'll let you know when the next one comes up! We usually end our walks with a social event and a picnic in the park! Join us.
Help at an educational booth: Earth Day, Hyde Park Street Fair, Mountain Home Harvest Festival, and other community events all present opportunities for a Sierra Club educational booth. Join with others to staff the booth, share information, do face painting and have a fun time. Gathering business and citizen petition signatures: Throughout the year we are asking citizens and businesses in our communities to sign the petition that tells our community leaders to keep cyanide and other poisons out of the Boise River watershed. If you can help by going around to local businesses or asking floaters this summer at the Barber Park put-in to sign, please let us know! Atlanta Gold slide show presenter: Would you be interested in attending a training to learn how to answer questions and present a 15 minute slideshow on the Atlanta Gold mine to clubs, friends, neighborhood associations or schools? This is a great way to increase public awareness about the mine. Please call the office for more details. Volunteerism is a fulfilling opportunity to both give of yourself while also receiving so much from others. The Sierra Club thrives because of the efforts of its volunteers. We need your help to continue to meet our goals: "To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth: to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environments." |
