WHO WE ARE:

What is the Middle Snake Group?  We are your local Sierra Club group in the southwest corner of Idaho.  Our area includes cities from Mountain Home to Boise and on up to McCall.  Our mission is to explore, enjoy and protect the Earth.

What does the group work on?  We focus on local, state and national conservation issues -- often, these issues of concern are selected by the interest of volunteers.  Hot issues include a Boise River Protection Campaign (there are 2 proposed industrial mines in the heart of our watershed), Clean Energy Solutions, The Owyhee Initative and Protecting Wild Lands and Wild Life (wolves, salmon, highway 12, etc.).

How are we different from other conservation groups?  What makes us unique is that we are a volunteer led organization.  Volunteers are elected by our membership to serve on our Executive Committee (essentially, a "Board of Directors").  The issues we work on are determined by the volunteers and the support we receive from National Sierra Club.

How many members do we have?  Our Middle Snake Group directly represents the interests of about 1,500 Sierra Club members. We have one full staff member, a half-time Volunteer Coordinator, seven elected Executive Committee members and teams of wonderful volunteers.

Are there other Sierra Club groups in Idaho?  Yes, we have a total of five local volunteer-led groups in Idaho that cover different regions in the state. We also have a statewide Chapter, called the Idaho Chapter, and there are delegates from each of the groups that serve on the Chapter Executive Committee in addition to volunteers that serve only the Idaho Chapter.

How can I get involved?  There are so many ways to participate.  We host community events, movies and potlucks that focus on our campaign work and everyone is always invited to attend.  The Sierra Club first started in 1892 as hiking club -- so we have fun hikes and outings to join.

Our monthly Executive Committee meeting is also open to members and is a great place learn more about our conservation work.  Volunteering is a good way to get connected and we have a variety of opportunities.  Call Katie at 208/384-1023 or email: katie.seevers@sierraclub.org. Donating your time or money is always welcomed and greatly appreciated.
