Legislative Update

Help Promote a Clean Energy Future in the Idaho Legislature

In 2007, the Idaho Legislature passed the Idaho Energy Plan that included key recommendations to secure Idaho's energy future.  Specifically, the plan called for the use of renewable energy throughout the state, setting energy efficiency and conservation goals and working to keep energy affordable in Idaho.  However, the recommendations are still waiting to be implemented.  We are asking the Idaho Legislature to place the high priority on policies and actions promoting conservation, efficiency, and clean renewable energy expansion during the upcoming 2010 Legislative Session.

The 2010 Session presents a great opportunity for Idahoans to let our policy makers know what we want our energy future to look like.  The Idaho Legislature is a citizen legislature which means you have the right (and the responsibility) to participate in the process.  Last year we held our first citizens “Energy Lobby Day” and it was a huge success.  Let us show you how easy and fun it can be.  We’ll host several trainings to help you get comfortable with the process and in February we’ll hold the 2nd annual citizens Energy Lobby Day.  Volunteers are needed for all sorts of duties from baking muffins to handing out packets of information to speaking with legislators.  Join us and let your voice be heard for our families, for our future.  Contact Jessica jessica.ruehrwein@sierraclub.org to get on our lobby list and to receive important alerts.
