Outings-

During 2007 we have had an active outings program.

Photo by Sondra Dunkle. Hike in Portneuf Mountain range east of McCammon, Idaho. The hike was from Big Springs (north side of Pebble Creek ski) to the ridgeline and Robber's Roost trail.  Then wer returned via Big Canyon trail.  We had beautiful weather and several areas of snow patches.  Trip was approximately 7.5 miles and all completed it and enjoyed themselves.

Currently no outings are scheduled, but hope to begin our 2008 program soon. We could use some additional folks who are willing to become outings leaders.It's both interesting and rewarding for the sake of conservation. For more information contact Sondra Dunkle.

Information-

Suggested Equipment List for Day Hikes (East ID SC Group):

• Sturdy, supportive hiking boots with vibram soles (waterproof boots are good).  (Be certain your boots are worn in before going on a long hike with them).
• Padded socks to protect feet
• Shorts and top (in hot weather)
• Long pants and long sleeved shirt (in cold weather).  (or use zip-up leg pants)
• Windbreaker (better if rainproof)
• Rain pants (especially if you get cold easily)
• Wide-rimmed hat (waterproof is good), with chin strap
• Polar fleece if it may turn cold.  (jacket, mittens, ear band)
• Sunglasses (polarized, wraparounds are best)
• Sunscreen of #15 minimum
• Lip gloss with protective sunscreen of #15 minimum
• Insect repellant
• Personal first aid kit for blisters, headache, muscle pain
• Daypack with room for extra clothes, windbreaker, etc.
• 2 quarts or 2 liters water per person (hydration packs work very well).
• Trail snacks
• Lunch
• Cash to pay for gas, if carpooling
• Bear spray/pepper spray (lots of wildlife in Idaho)
• Epi pen, if you are allergic to bee stings, etc.
• Any medication you require, or may require during the day

Optional Items:

• Hiking poles
• Camera
• Binoculars
• Hand sanitizer packets or gel
• Pad or cloth to sit on during lunch
• Cell phone
• Map of area
• Survival blanket and basic survival items
• Flashlight
• Compass
• Whistle
• Toilet tissue and ziplock bag

Notes:  Pepper spray/Bear Spray works on many kinds of animals, eg bear, moose, farm or sheep guarding dogs, cougar.
